Making a sabretache/tarsoly készítés

Tarsolylemez fóliába karcolásához minták.

Tarsoly (pronounced 'tar-shoy) is a kind of bag (sabretache) in which Magyars used to keep stuff for making fire with (fire stone etc.) They were used by the Magyars who were coming from Asia to Europe around 800-900 A.D. and also later somewhat similar bags were used by hussars (huszárok). Tarsolylemez is the decorative cover plate of the bag. You can scratch motifs from "tarsolylemez" into special silver foil. It can be bought in creative hobby shops or some types of sour cream and yoghurt packaging also used to have this kind of cover. You can use the back of such packaging. Recycle :) So a slightly thicker aluminum foil is needed (not silver foil- that gets wrinkled too easily) and a pointed object such as a pen that ran out of ink or a blunt needle.
Here is a photo of children making "tarsolylemez".

You can also make an actual tarsoly (not only the trasoly plate) from felt or leather but that is a bit more difficult.

On this wenbsite there is a lengthy explanation about tarsoly in Hungarian. I put the link here because you can see a drawing of how the tarsoly was worn on the belt.
