Films about or connected to the 1956 revolution and freedom fight in Hungary. This is not a full list of films about 1956.This asterisk: * means that the title translation was done by me, I don't know if there's an official English version. In the links to the films you will either find a description of the film or the official website of the film or a youtube link to the trailer. The order of films is random, I'm not rating the films.

Filmek az 1956-os forradalomhoz és szabadságharchoz kapcsolódó filmek. A lista korántsem teljes. A csillaggal* jelölt filmcímeket magam fordítottam, nem tudom, hogy létezik-e hivatalos angol vagy angol eredeti esetén hivatalos magyar filmcím. A linkek alatt vagy a filmről szóló leírás, vagy a film hivatalos honlapja, vagy a youtube-on található trailer érhető el. A számozás és a filmek sorrendje véletlenszerű, nem minősíteni akartam a filmeket. Annyit tettem mindösszesen, hogy a hasonló témát feldolgozó filmek egymás mellé kerültek a listán.

Ha diákjainknak szórakoztató formában be akarjuk mutatni az 56-os eseményeket, akkor a Szabadság szerelem a manapság legnépszerűbb mű, melyet a szerelmi szál is emlékezetessé tehet a tizenévesek számára. Továbbá a fiatalok (a harcokban résztvevő srácok) szemszögéből készült filmek is közelebb hozzák a mai tizenévesek számra az akkori eseményeket.
Ezek mellett számos dokumentumfilm közül is válogathatunk, melyek gyakran angol nyelven készültek eredetileg, vagy ellátták őket angol felirattal, illetve egyéb nyelveken készült, vagy feliratozott filmek is vannak. Ahol tudtam ott feltüntettem, hogy a filmnek létezik-e feliratos, vagy szinkronizált változata. A 20. számtól kezdődő dokumentumfilmek közül soknak van, nem csak angol, hanem más európai nyelveken is felirata. Az Egyéb források részben letölthető, vagy online nézhető filmek is vannak. Mielőtt bemutatnánk egy filmet a diákoknak nézzük meg, hogy milyen az életkori besorolása. Vannak filmek, amikben sok a vér, vagy nagyon sok durva szót használnak(pl. a 0. film).

1. Szabadság szerelem - Children of Glory
(magyar film - Hungarian film 2006)
A popular film which draws a parallel between the events of the 1956 revolution and the final water polo match between Hungary and the Soviet Union at the Melbourne Olympics, which match is know as the "bloodiest match" in the history of the Olympic Games.

2. A szabadság vihara- Freedom's Fury
(amerikai dokumentumfilm - American documentary 90 min 2006)
This is a film based on the same events as Children's Glory but it is a documentray. It features interviews with the water polo players involved in the "bloodiest match" in the history of the Olympic Games.

4. Mansfeld - Mansfeld
(kanadai- magyar filmdráma - Canadian-Hungarian drama film 118 min 2006)

Peter Mansfeld was one of those boys who got involved in the revolution and was underaged during the revolution and authorities waited for him to come of age and executed him. (According to law capital punishment couldn't be carried out on underaged. )

A film about the life of Imre Nagy, Prime Minister of Hungary between 1953-55 and on the request of the people during the revolution of 23rd October 1956. As a result he was executed in 1958.

(magyar film - Hungarian film1971)
This is not really about the revolution itself as this film is also from before the change of regime. It shows what life was like after the revolution through the life of a woman whose husband is in prison. (Retaliation, then amnesty in 1963)

Hungarian folk tale with English subs 3/Magyar népmese angol felirattal 3: THE PRINCE WHO WANTED TO BE IMMORTAL/A HALHATATLANSÁGRA VÁGYÓ KIRÁLYFI

This folk tale has many versions. It was simplified for the sake of the animation.(The prince meets people condemned to live a long life and do certain things eg. the woman has to sew as long as a roomful of needles will go blunt. Nemrég felfedeztem, hogy a Magyar Népemsék sorozat egyes részei léteznek angol szinkronnal is. A "jankoraven"-nevű youtuber osztotta meg az alábbi két mesét.

Mi az a Szektorlabda??? Hát a GOMBFOCI! / Button soccer

A gombfoci magyar találmány. Ha a magyar kultúrát akarjuk megszerettetni külföldi gyerekekkel, akkor azt gondolnánk, hogy biztosan tetszeni fog a gombfoci a fiúknak .
Nos, nekem az a tapasztalatom, hogy a mai számítógépes játékok mellett a gombfoci sajnos nem valami motiváló. Vittem Németországba gombfocit (Arsenal és Real Madrid csapatokkal) és a nemzetközi iskolai napon egyetlen egy gyerek pöckölgette csak, a többiek ránéztek, hogy jah hát ez nem túl izgi és inkább ették a kolbászos szendvicseket hiába próbáltam őket beszervezni a játékba. A Rubik kockát viszont sokan megpróbálták megoldani, az egyik kockámat darabokra szedték erővel (ráadásul pont kölcsönkapott volt) .

Ha valaki mégis kedvet kapott gombfocihoz itt a gyártó címe, ami a gombfocim dobozán van: Fodor Ervin 1073 Budapest, Bojtár u. 36. 2008-ban vettem egy közönséges játékboltban a gombfocit 250 Ft/csapat, illetve -ha jól emlékszem - 100Ft/kapu áron, a labda jár a csapathoz alapból. :) Tehát 700 Ft-ból kijött egy szett.

Ki ne ismerné a Magyar népmesék rajzfilmsorozatot, aki Magyarországon nőtt fel. Noha az 1970-es években kezdték készíteni a sorozat mind a mai napig népszerű. Sajnos nem tudok arról, hogy lenne angol feliratos változata, ezért elkészítettem nem kis munkával két rövid mese feliratait még Németországban azért, hogy a gyerekeknek tudjam vetíteni. Éppen azért, mert a gyerekek nem anyanyelvként beszélték az angolt a feliratok szándékosan nagyon egyszerűek, már amennyire lehet. Illetve a feliratozás eleve szab korlátokat, nem fér ki mindig teljes fordítás a képernyőre. Ettől függetlenül azért élvezhető marad a mese és remélem sokak lelik benne majd örömüket!

Az alábbi mese "A só", az első mese a Magyar népmesék sorozatból. 1977-ben készült.

This folk tale was the first of the Hungarian Folktales (Magyar népmesék) series. It's titled "The Salt" and it is from 1977. The beginning of the story is very similar to Shakespeare's King Lear.

Hungarian deck of cards - Magyar kártya - Doppeldeutsche

Tanítsunk/tanuljunk kártyázni magyar kártyával!

Let's play with Hungarian cards! They are even great as souvenirs, not very heavy and not fragile, yet something fun and typical Hungarian.

This time I'm writing about the Hungarian deck of cards.
It is called Hungarian cards (magyar kátya) and as for Hungary they are just as popular as the French deck (francia kártya).
The Anglo-Saxon name for Hungarian deck is German deck or Tell deck. It contains 32 cards (in Hungary) and shows images from Schiller's drama called Villiam Tell. (No, the apple shooting thing is not there in the standard deck.) The Aces are four seasons. Hearts, bells, leaves and acorns are used instead of hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs.

Some vocabulary:

heart - piros
leaf - zöld
bell - tök
acorn- makk

Here are the literal translations:

piros - red
zöld - green
tök - pumpkin
makk - acorn


The story behind the cards:
József Schneider and Ödön Chwalowsky, who were card painters in Pest, painted the first deck of Hungarian cards around 1835. In the 1860's these originally biedermeier style card designs were renewed in Vienna and became popular in the entire Monarchy. These Hungarian cards are used even today in the countries created form the Monarchy. They are not called Hungarian cards everyhwere. The German name for the Hungarian card is "Doppeldeutsche".

GAMES

One of the games that can be played with these cards is Schnapsen. It is Snapszli or Snapszer in the Hungarian version of the German word. Under this link you can find the rules of this game in English and a lot of extra information about the cards. (Even information that an average Hungarian person wouldn't know.)
